Brad Gilbert isn't handing out all-time greatness badges just yet, but he's not ruling it out either. The celebrated coach and analyst, who guided Andre Agassi, Andy Murray, and Andy Roddick during his career, recently weighed in on where Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner might eventually rank in tennis history, and the answer is potentially staggering.
Speaking on The Big T Podcast, Gilbert made clear that neither player currently cracks his personal top ten all-time list, a stance that may surprise fans given their recent dominance. Between them, the Spaniard and the Italian have claimed ten of the last eleven Grand Slam titles. Sinner, now holding five majors after a second consecutive Wimbledon crown, dropped just three sets throughout the entire fortnight at SW19. Alcaraz, sitting on seven slams, became the youngest male player ever to reach that milestone at just 22 years and 272 days, surpassing both Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal.
Their combined stranglehold on the ATP Rankings reached a remarkable milestone after their Monte-Carlo final, when the world No. 1 and No. 2 together held more ranking points than the rest of the top eight combined.
Still, Gilbert urges patience. Players like Mats Wilander, Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker, and Ken Rosewall occupy spots 11 through 15 on his list, and he insists longevity will determine everything. "If either one of them doesn't do anything more, I can't put them on the list," he noted.
