Seventh seed Anna Bondar was edged out by Tamara Zidansek 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 7-5, a nearly three-hour scrap that flipped on every tiebreak and leaves Bondar's section of the UniCredit Iasi Open redrawn overnight. Zidansek now lines up against second seed Petra Marcinko in the quarter-finals.
Marcinko had to dig deep herself. The second seed survived Elina Avanesyan 7-6(3), 7-6(5), never trailing a set but never quite free of danger either, the kind of nervous straight-sets win that still burns matches on clay. Elsewhere, Yulia Putintseva was more clinical in a 6-3, 6-3 win over Alina Charaeva, and Clara Burel blew past Elsa Jacquemot 6-1, 6-1 to keep her run rolling.
The last eight already features Zidansek vs Marcinko as a headline tie, with Putintseva and Burel waiting on their half of the bracket to fill in. Still unresolved in Round 2: Mayar Sherif vs Kaitlin Quevedo, Oleksandra Oliynykova vs Elena Pridankina, and Alevtina Ibragimova vs Paula Badosa, plus one more unfinished second-round slot that will decide who meets Putintseva.
