The clearest upset of the early wave came from Mai Hontama, who took out eighth seed Magda Linette 6-4, 7-5. Alycia Parks edged Valentini Grammatikopoulou 7-6(3), 6-4, Harriet Dart survived Mina Hodzic 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(4), and Lilli Tagger made short work of Marianne Argyrokastriti 6-1, 6-1. Top seed Clara Tauson has yet to play her opener against Nao Hibino, third seed Barbora Krejcikova is still to face Viktoriya Tomova, and second seed Ann Li waits on Maria Timofeeva. Those unfinished ties will decide whether the top of the Athens draw stays orderly, or whether Hontama's win over Linette is the first of several seed shocks this week.
