Knee Recovery Picking Up Speed
Jannik Sinner's lengthy absence from the tour following a knee injury that cut his season short may be approaching its end. The world No. 1 last competed after winning Wimbledon in mid-July, but Italian sports outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport is now reporting that the 23-year-old's recovery has reached an encouraging stage, with the publication claiming the moment to pick up his racket again is drawing near.
Sinner has been receiving specialist treatment from orthopedic surgeon Herbert Schoenhuber and Alberto Zangrillo, Chief Clinical Officer at San Raffaele Hospital. The Italian source reports that Sinner will soon step away from the J Medical facility where he has been treated, signaling a meaningful step forward. On-court testing as soon as next week could be on the cards, allowing his medical team to see how the knee responds to the demands of actual play. If he clears those hurdles, a potential appearance at the Six Kings Slam exhibition in late December is possible, with the Australian Open in late January serving as the bigger target.
Cahill's Monte Carlo Visit Sparks Contract Speculation
Adding intrigue to the situation, coach Darren Cahill posted a photo from Monte Carlo this week, where Sinner's team frequently trains. La Gazzetta dello Sport alleges that Cahill flew there specifically to hold what it describes as decisive discussions about extending their partnership beyond its current terms.
Cahill, known for his long-time work with Andre Agassi, was originally set to depart at the close of this season. His contract was then extended through early 2027. Now reports suggest the collaboration could stretch further, potentially running all the way through the 2027 French Open in June, partly to compensate for the six months Sinner lost to injury in 2026.
TennisDraw users have Sinner locked in as a heavy favorite in their Australian Open bracket predictions, making his recovery timeline one of the most watched storylines heading into the new year.
