A New Voice in Sinner's Corner?
Jannik Sinner has not played a competitive match since lifting the Wimbledon trophy in July, sidelined since then by a knee injury that forced him to end his 2026 campaign early. Yet the conversation around the Italian star has barely slowed down. Darren Cahill, his trusted coach, is widely expected to leave at the conclusion of this season, and the search for a replacement has become one of the hottest topics on the tour.
Several big names have already been floated. Juan Carlos Ferrero, who famously guided Carlos Alcaraz to multiple Grand Slam titles, has publicly expressed interest. Others mentioned include Carlos Moya, Toni Nadal, and even Andre Agassi. David Ferrer is also a possibility after confirming he will not continue as Spain's Davis Cup captain beyond 2026.
Pannatta Makes His Case for Bertolucci
Now a fresh voice has entered the debate. Adriano Pannatta recently suggested Italian tennis veteran Paolo Bertolucci as the ideal candidate. Speaking to Tennis Temple, Pannatta described Bertolucci as one of a very small group of former players who genuinely understands the sport at a deep level. He also noted that the demands of full-time tour coaching are immense, pointing to the physical and emotional commitment required, and suggesting the travel distance from Australia may have contributed to Cahill's fatigue.
Bertolucci brings real credentials. He captained Italy's Davis Cup team from 1998 to 2000 and spent years at the Italian Tennis Federation. He also worked closely with Omar Camporese during a period when the player cracked the ATP top 20.
With Sinner's knee timeline still unclear, his coaching decision will be one of the biggest stories heading into 2027. TennisDraw users have already been busy updating their bracket picks to reflect just how unsettled Sinner's preparation could be.
