Jannik Sinner is leaving nothing to chance as he gears up for the North American hard-court swing. The Italian world No. 1 made headlines by withdrawing from the Montreal Masters, choosing recovery over the chance to chase an unprecedented feat: becoming the first man to win all nine ATP Masters 1000 titles in a single calendar year.
The decision was not taken lightly. Sinner had already claimed Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome in 2026, but the memory of his shocking second-round exit at Roland Garros against Juan Manuel Cerundolo loomed large. That collapse came after months of relentless tennis with almost no downtime, and his team was determined not to repeat that mistake heading into the US swing.
Sinner's recovery began in style. He and his girlfriend, model Laila Hasanovic, retreated to the upscale coastal village of Porto Rafael in Sardinia. From there, Sinner honored his role as Explora Journeys global brand ambassador, joining the naming ceremony of the Explora III in Genoa before sailing on a Mediterranean preview voyage to Marseille on July 24 and 25.
The racket eventually came back out in his hometown of San Candido, where he hit the clay courts at the 3 Zinnen Dolomites complex. He then relocated to Monaco, training at the Monte Carlo Country Club, which, despite its clay-court reputation, also features hard courts suited for US Open preparation.
Sinner has been working alongside world No. 18 Valentin Vacherot, a Monegasque local who has been recovering from injury after missing the grass-court season. Despite playing only nine tournaments in 2026, Sinner has already logged 47 matches, second only to Alexander Zverev.
