A Long-Awaited Return to the Tour

Juan Carlos Ferrero is heading back to professional tennis. The 2003 French Open champion confirmed in an interview with Eurosport Spain that he has finalised a coaching agreement with a currently unnamed player, with the official announcement scheduled for November 9. "I can already say that I've finalised an agreement with a player," Ferrero said, adding that his goal for next season is to be back on tour. He stopped short of revealing any further details, including who the player is or whether he is fully enthusiastic about the pairing.

The news ends months of speculation. Ferrero has been strongly linked throughout 2026 with several top names, including Jannik Sinner, Alex de Minaur, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Rafael Jodar. Sinner has since reportedly moved toward hiring Magnus Norman, while Auger-Aliassime has begun working with Ivan Ljubicic. That leaves Jodar as the name most observers are pointing to, though Ferrero kept his cards firmly hidden during the interview.

Life After Alcaraz

Ferrero split from Carlos Alcaraz at the end of 2025 following a partnership that began in 2018 when Alcaraz was just 15. During that remarkable run, Alcaraz claimed 24 ATP Tour titles and six Grand Slams, becoming the youngest world No. 1 in history. Ferrero acknowledged in a separate interview that he would change certain things about Alcaraz's career overall, though he stressed the split was not caused by any single incident.

Rather than jump straight back into coaching, Ferrero spent the first part of 2026 working as a mental performance coach for rising Spanish golfer Angel Ayora. He also admitted he skipped watching Alcaraz's Australian Open final victory in January, though he has since returned to analysing matches calmly. TennisDraw users will want to lock in their bracket picks once the new partnership drops on November 9.
