Serena and Venus Williams are set to team up once again at the US Open in New York, marking their first Grand Slam doubles pairing since the 2022 edition of the same tournament. The United States Tennis Association awarded the sisters a wildcard entry, giving fans a rare chance to see one of tennis history's most celebrated partnerships back in action at Flushing Meadows.
The duo carries a remarkable shared record in doubles, having collected 14 Grand Slam titles together without ever losing a major doubles final. Their two US Open doubles crowns came in 1999 and 2009, and their most recent Grand Slam doubles trophy was lifted at Wimbledon in 2016. This will mark only their third appearance together at a major since that Wimbledon triumph, following brief reunions at the French Open in 2018 and the 2022 US Open.
Injuries, Returns, and What to Expect
The road back to New York has not been without obstacles. Serena, now 44, made her competitive return earlier this summer at Queen's Club before receiving a wildcard into the Wimbledon singles draw. A knee injury suffered during that tournament forced her to withdraw from the planned Wimbledon doubles reunion with Venus. The sisters did manage to compete together at the Cincinnati Open in August, though they fell in three sets to Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns.
Venus, 46, has continued playing sporadically on tour and also received a wildcard for the US Open singles draw. The sisters are scheduled to begin their doubles campaign on either September 3 or September 4, giving them a chance to rewrite their final chapter together.
