Gauff Draws the Line at Singles

Coco Gauff has made her position crystal clear when it comes to a potential singles match against Carlos Alcaraz. Speaking to USA Today Sports, the American star admitted that, for the sake of her own confidence, she would not step on the court to face the Spaniard in a one-on-one format. The comments came after her father publicly suggested he believed she could beat Alcaraz head-to-head, a bold claim that quickly made the rounds online.

The conversation was partly inspired by the high-profile "Battle of the Sexes" match between Aryna Sabalenka and Nick Kyrgios at the start of 2026, a controversial event that nevertheless drew significant attention to the concept of men versus women in tennis.

A Mixed Doubles Dream Team in the Making?

While ruling out singles, Gauff was enthusiastic about the idea of teaming up with Alcaraz in mixed doubles, saying she would be happy to share the same side of the net with him. This is far from an empty suggestion. Neither player has yet entered the US Open Mixed Doubles draw, leaving the door wide open for a pairing at Flushing Meadows this year.

Gauff brings serious doubles credentials to the table, having won 10 doubles titles throughout her career. Alcaraz, meanwhile, is recovering from a wrist injury and is reportedly being offered a wildcard to compete at the US Open. Last year, Alcaraz partnered with Emma Raducanu in the mixed doubles, but the pair fell to Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper in the opening round.

TennisDraw users are already buzzing about the prospect of a Gauff-Alcaraz pairing as one of the most exciting wildcard bracket picks of the season.
