Jack Draper has described the past year as a 'perfect storm' of physical setbacks, but the British star is eyeing a return to the court at the Canadian Open in Montreal, scheduled from August 2 to 13, with Andy Murray now serving as a key member of his coaching team.
Draper's troubles began during the 2025 clay-court swing when he sustained a bone bruise in his left arm. Despite the injury, he reached the semi-finals at Queen's Club before falling to Marin Cilic in the second round at Wimbledon. A brave attempt at the US Open ended with a withdrawal after his first-round match, and he ultimately shut down his season entirely. The Australian Open earlier this year was also a casualty of the lingering arm problem.
A bright spot emerged when Draper reached the last 16 at the Indian Wells Masters in early 2026, notably defeating 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic along the way. However, a first-round loss in Miami and a retirement mid-match in Barcelona sent him back into recovery mode, costing him the rest of the clay season and Wimbledon.
Following a split with coach Jamie Delgado, Draper brought Murray on board in mid-May. The partnership has only one tournament under its belt so far, Eastbourne, but Draper has spoken warmly about the benefit of working with someone who has navigated serious career adversity. Murray's experience dealing with physical hardship has given Draper both perspective and confidence heading into his comeback.
