The six-time Grand Slam champion called out analysts and pundits for overlooking the young American, insisting Tien is "the real deal" and predicting "big things" from him in the near future.
The numbers back Becker up. Tien captured the Geneva Open title in 2026 and reached the Del Ray Open final earlier in the season. He has also posted quarterfinal appearances at both the Australian Open and Indian Wells, two of the biggest events on the calendar. At the Canadian Open, he defeated Gael Monfils, Tommy Paul, and Thiago Agustin Tirante to book yet another quarterfinal spot, this time against Daniel Merida.
Despite all that, Tien seems to generate far less conversation than peers ranked nearby, including Arthur Fils, Joao Fonseca, and Rafael Jodar. Tien currently sits at world No. 17 and already has two ATP titles to his name, having also won the Moselle Open. He reached his first ATP 500 final in 2025, falling to Jannik Sinner at the China Open.
