The week following Wimbledon brought no action for the WTA elite, leaving the top 25 completely untouched, but a pair of WTA 250 tournaments in Athens and Iasi produced some notable ranking movements worth tracking ahead of the summer hard-court swing.
In Athens, Barbora Krejcikova reminded everyone she still belongs near the top of the game. The two-time Grand Slam singles champion dispatched home crowd favorite Maria Sakkari 7-6(5), 6-3 in the final, earning herself a six-place climb from 32nd to 26th. Sakkari also benefited from her finalist run, rising four spots to 33rd.
Over in Iasi, the clay-court title went to Mayar Sherif after Paula Badosa was forced to retire through injury while trailing 6-4, 4-0 in the second set. Despite not completing the final, Badosa's runner-up points were enough to launch her a remarkable 22 places forward, from 115th all the way up to 93rd. Sherif's title win propelled her 24 spots to 73rd. Oleksandra Oliynykova also had reason to celebrate, reaching a new career-high of 45th following her semi-final run in Romania.
Not everyone moved in a positive direction. Alex Eala sat out last week entirely, but Krejcikova's surge nudged the Filipino star off her career-high of 28th down one spot to 29th. Emma Raducanu, who has not competed since finishing runner-up at the Queen's Club Championships, actually crept up one place from 38th to 37th thanks to others losing ground around her.
Tereza Valentova slid 14 places to 63rd, while Lilli Tagger climbed 11 spots to a new career-best of 74th.
