Alcaraz Extends Remarkable ATP 500 Streak
Carlos Alcaraz is through to the Erste Bank Open final in Vienna for the first time in his career after defeating Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) in a polished semifinal performance on Saturday. The Spanish second seed claimed the opening set after Medvedev gifted him a set point with a double fault, and then weathered a strong Medvedev fightback in the second before dominating the tiebreak with a barrage of powerful groundstrokes. The victory wrapped up in just 96 minutes and handed Alcaraz a measure of revenge for the defeat Medvedev handed him at the Indian Wells semifinals earlier this season. It also extended his remarkable unbeaten run at ATP 500 events to 25 consecutive matches, with his last loss at that level coming at the Barcelona Open back in April 2025. Sunday's final will be the 37th tour-level final of Alcaraz's career and his fifth of this season.
De Minaur Stuns World Number One-Elect Zverev
In the second semifinal, Alex De Minaur produced arguably the performance of his week, defeating top seed Alexander Zverev 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4) in a gripping two-and-a-half-hour battle. After Zverev dominated the second set, neither player could manufacture a break in a tense decider, and it was De Minaur who held his nerve in the tiebreak. The 27-year-old Australian improved his indoor record this season to a perfect 10 wins from 10 matches, while also keeping his hopes of qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finals alive. Zverev, despite the defeat, will still claim the world number one ranking on Monday, replacing Jannik Sinner who is sidelined with a knee injury. The Vienna final promises fireworks, and TennisDraw users have been heavily backing Alcaraz to claim the title heading into Sunday's showpiece.
